Presente Simple o continuo. ¿Cual uso?

Utilizamos el presente Simple

1. Para acciones regulares o para eventos. "I watch TV most evenings."
2. Hechos. "The sun rises in the east"
3. Hechos que sepa sobre el futuro. "The plane leaves at 5.00 in the morning."
4. Pensamientos y sentimientos sobre el tiempo de hablar. "I don't understand."

Utilizamos el presente continuo

1. En el momento de hablar ('now') "I'm watching a movie on TV"
2. Cosas que son verdaderas en el momento pero no siempre. "I'm looking for a new job."
3. Presente planes para el futuro. "I'm taking my husband to New York for his birthday.

Mira estas frases:

• I usually don't drink coffee but I'm having one this morning because there is nothing else.
• I often drive to work but I'm taking the train this morning because my car is in for repair.
• I'm thinking about dying my hair blonde but I don't think my wife will be very happy about it.
• My parents live in New York but I'm just visiting.

Nota cómo en todos estos ejemplos usamos el presente continuo para hablar acerca de acontecimientos que son temporales o limitados en el tiempo y el presente simple para hablar de eventos que son de hábito permanente.
